An International Driving Permit(IDP) is a translation of a domestic driver license that allows the holder to drive a private motor vehicle in any Country or jurisdiction that recognizes the documents. According to Cambridge Dictionary, Motor Vehicle refer to a car, bus, truck or other vehicle powered by a motor that uses roads.
Cambodia became the party to Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949), by an accession on Mar 14, 1956. Now, there are 101 states parties to this convention.

There are three conventions that govern International Driving Permit (IDP), they are :
- Paris International Convention relative to Motor Traffic (1926) ;
- Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949); and
- Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (1968)
Cambodia is a party to only one of these three, Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949).
To comply with the provision of the convention, Ministry of Public Works and Transportation of Kingdom of Cambodia released the Prakas on The Procedure of Issuing International Driving Permit (IDP), on January 15, 2020.
According to article 6 of the above mentioned Prakas, the application for an International Driving Permit, is available online at https://driverlicense.mpwt.gov.kh or we can apply directly to Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.
